Hutchison Vale v Hibs
Match Report - 02 Dec 2006

This game started 10 minutes early as the weather at the start of the fixture was atrocious. It was windy, cold and wet. The ref did not want the girls to be out in the conditions any longer than was necessary. The conditions may have been difficult but the girls from both teams must be applauded for their determination. This was a derby match that both teams were desperate to win.

For the first half Hutchie Vale had a strong wind at their backs but Hibs Girls managed to have the majority of possession to keep any Hutchie chances to a minimum. Hibs Girls had strong performances at the back from Chloe Jamieson, Kirsten Weir and Fern Quinn. The first goal for Hibs came when Gemma Robb turned the Hutchie Vale defender brilliantly forcing her to make a challege which brought Gemma down. The ref had no choice but to give a penalty. Credit must be given to Captain Kirsten who stepped up bravely to take the kick and place it well into the net.

For Hutchison Vale Kelly Dugan, at the back, was very impressive with some couple of well timed tackles one especially against Gemma Robb to stop every dangerous attack from Hibs.

Gemma Robb throughout the match was outstanding. She must one of the most exciting players in the league. It was only what she deserved to get the Hibs Girls second half goal with a well place shot. Gemma should however have scored in the first half when a well directed cross from Bryoney Ross was headed over the bar. Ellen Pia never managed to get on the score sheet but made some excting runs throughout the match.

The other Hibs player who deserved a mention was Claire McEwan who was outstanding. Claire won every tackle she went in for and all her timing and passes were first class. Ciara Donaldson came on midway through the second half and made a good impression.

Considering the strong wind had died down by the time Hibs would have the advantage in the second half, it was a well deserved victory. Hutchison were well organised and made Hibs work for the result.
