Spartans - Hibs
Match Report - 24th Sept 2006
On a soaking Sunday morning, the under 13s put on another impressive display to beat Spartans 13-0 at Inverleith. Despite the awful weather, the girls dug in, rolled up there sleeves and gave the home team no chance to settle from the start. Continuing her goal scoring run, Kirsty Smith found the net twice early on to put Hibs in the driving seat. A brace from Siobhan Hunter and Stacey Hutchison put Hibs 6-0 up at half-time with the game beyond Spartans at this point. Despite the scoreline, Spartans looked dangerous going forward but could not apply pressure for any length of time. The game was won in midfield with Hibs dominating in the middle of the park.
A number of changes were made at half-time but the girls continued the onslaught with Caroline weir continuing her impressive display in midfield. Even in the slippy conditions, she was able to make her trade mark mazy runs and pick the wingers out with ease. Ellen Reid played up front for the majority of the second half and thundered in some fantastic goals. Ellen's desire and commitment was particulary impressive along with her well taken goals. Lucy Brown and Shannon Lamb both came on for the second half which helped give the side a different approach as the pair were able to maximise the width of the pitch and run at defenders as well as feed their team mates with crosses.
The combined defensive duties of Yasemine Emek, Clair Emslie, Anna Green and Natalie McDermid helped ensure Hannah Reid kept her first clean sheet of the season. When called upon, Hannah was alert and quick to thwart any danger. Some of the best Hibs moves were built from the defensive partnerships with one particular move by Claire and Yasemine entertaining the crowd. A quick one two from the pair enabled Caroline to be fed in the middle, no time was wasted playing it forward to Siobhan who layed off a well weighted flick which Stacey smashed just wide of the post. It was a typical move from the girls who are a delight to watch every time they play.
The girls next game is at home to Hutchison Vale on Sat 30 September and should turn out to be a great encounter as the two teams played out some fantastic games last season. Hope to see you there.
