Broxburn - Hibs
Match Report - 23rd Sept 2006

This was Hibs Girls first ever match against Broxburn Girls as it is Broxburn's first season at this level. The weather was an excellent Indian summer's day. For the first ten minutes Hibs Girls pressed against a well organised Broxburn defence, which held out for some time. After twelve minutes Hibs got their first goal. Last year's under 13 captain, Rebecca Zoltie opened her account for the season with a blistering shot from outside the box, which had both accuracy and power. Rebecca went on to add to her tally in the second half.

Rebecca Macpherson had a great first half; scoring four goals and also providing a great chip for a Moriah Jackson goal. Moriah may not be as prolific as the other Hibs strikers, but the quality of her goals more than compensates for this. Rebecca Macpherson cleverly chipped the ball over a Broxburn defenders head, Moriah Jackson skillfully pulled the ball down in one motion and flicked it past the keeper.

Ellen Pia was on the substitutes bench in the first half and came on to score seven goals. The best was a fantastic dribble, where she ran 50 yards beating three players to place the ball in the back of the net. Seven goals in thirty-five minutes is an outstanding achievement.

During the game Bryony Ross and Gemma Robb both managed to score hat-tricks and Kirsten Weir and Anja McConnachie also managed to get on the score sheet. Gemma Burns came on for the first time this season and provided a great volley down the left wing which found Gemma Robb, this created a great opportunity which was thwarted by the Broxburn defence.

Broxburn are a very young side and the vast majority of their players will be able to play under 15 football for a number of years. Despite the scoreline, the club have a promising future if they can keep this side together. They have played only a handful of 11 a-side matches and will get stronger every match. The first ten minutes demonstrated that they can be well organised and play well together as a team
