Cowdenbeath - Hibs
Match Report - 9th Sept 2006
A brilliant four pronged attack from Bryony Ross, Ellen Pia, Rebecca MacPherson and Gemma Robb scored a barrel full of goals in the first half to kill off a brave Cowdenbeath side on Saturday. Cowdenbeath tried to crowd the midfield to stifle the Hibs Girls passing game but this tactic backfired as Hibs midfielders and defenders just flicked the ball over the crowded midfield and the lethal four used their speed and skill without mercy.
In the second half Gemma continued to demonstrate her considerable skill and gave the Cowdenbeath defence all sorts of problems. Anja McConnachie scored from a corner to compensate for her many near misses. Rebecca Zoltie was unlucky not to score having brought off saves form the keeper and also hitting the woodwork. She had one great shot that just missed the target late on in the game. Kirsty Smart came on as substitute in the second half and played a couple of great crosses, one of which lead to a goal.
Hibs Girls always enjoy visiting Cowdenbeath. They are a very hospitable team who always make their visitors welcome. They have a very young enthusiastic team which always tries to play a passing game. They are a great community club with the full backing from the senior club who provide a level of support which is probably the envy of every girls football team. Cowdenbeath FC provide their girls with a full set of strips, training kit, tracksuits, balls and training equipment. In return, the Cowdenbeath Girls represent the club at community galas and also help out the community. Many of the Hibs Girls left hoping that Mixu's team would beat Morton at their top of the table clash.
