Hibs U15s Drop First Points
Hibs U15s v Hutchison Vale Match Report
Summer arrived at the barracks on Saturday and even at kick off time (11:45) the fans were basking in glorious warm sunshine, ideal conditions for spectators but not for those who were about to take to the field. The game was expected to be another close competitive encounter following the pre-season friendly which Hutchie just edged.
Hibs starting line up had Anna in goal, back four of Lara, Robyn, Eve and Shannon, midfield Ash, Simone, Caitlin and Tasha, with Toni and Crunchie leading the attack.
Both teams settled fairly quickly and Hibs threatened early and had a number of chances on goal. On the 12 minute mark Crunchie found herself in space on the left and called for the ball and the pass came from Ash. Despite being closed down quickly Crunchie managed to beat her marker, cut into the box then sent a low powerful drive inside the near post. Hibs 1 – 0 Hutchie.
Hibs maintained the pressure and the next opportunity fell to Toni after Ash reached the bye line and sent over a terrific cross with pace, unfortunately Toni’s header went over the bar. Caitlin pounced on a loose ball and smashed it towards goal only to see her effort go just wide. Crunchie had another shot but this too went wide of the target.
It wasn’t all one way traffic though and Anna showed good pace and bravery racing out from goal and diving to smother an attack. The Hibs defence had to work hard to deal with the strength and pace of the Hutchie forward line and Lara showed excellent work rate, commitment and fighting spirit in clearing the danger on a number of ocassions.
Hutchie scored late on in the half when a shot from wide out on the right flew over Anna into the far side of the net. Hibs 1 -1 Hutchie. Despite edging possession and creating more chances the first half ended even.
Half Time – Hibs 1 v 1 Hutchison Vale
Robyn succumbed to an earlier injury and didn’t take to the field in the second half, Crunchie took her place at centre back and Chloe joined Toni in attack.
The forced change in defence appeared to be pivotal. Despite having played together many times before there was misunderstanding and confusion in evidence. In a 20 minute spell Hutchie scored 3 goals to take a 1- 4 lead. These goals came from missed clearances, half tackles and players getting in each others way, in general a lack of communication, which the alert Hutchie forwards punished with relish. Hibs 1 – 4 Hutchie
The Hibs players heads appeared to clear after this nightmare period. Hibs now found themselves in the recently familiar position of having to come back from behind, but surely grabbing 3 goals in the remaining time was too much to ask. Undaunted by the task facing them Hibs went about trying to get back in the game, and were rewarded when Ash scored from wide on the right hand side. Shortly afterwards Ash grabbed her second with a clever flick on which beat the goalie. Hibs 3 – 4 Hutchie
With their tails up now Hibs drove forward trying to grab an equaliser in the dying minutes. Enough chances were created to win the game never mind equalise but Hibs failed to take them. In the end Hutchie secured the win after a good run and cut in from the left the shot found the back of the Hibs net.
