16/05/10 - JEANFIELD SWIFTS 0 v 1 HIBERNIAN 1875
Hibernian 1875 make it 3 wins from the last 4 games with a late winner away from home against Jeanfield Swifts.
Hibernian 1875 travelled away from home for the 4th game in succession when they took on Jeanfield Swifts on League business in Perth on Sunday.
Hibernian started positively and opened up the Jeanfield defence a number of times in the early stages. Unfortunately the final ball was invariably just too firm and the Jeanfield goalkeeper came off her line to sweep up convincingly. Alana McMillan did get a clear sight of goal in the 28th minute but her 20 yard drive slammed off the crossbar to safety. Jeanfield gradually came more into the game and the Hibernian goal just managed to survived intact to half time when the Jeanfield centre missed an open goal.
The second half followed a similar pattern to the first with Hibernian huffing and puffing but failing to create many clear cut chances. Natalie McDermid replaced the injured Laura Connolly in goal and coped comfortably with the sporadic Jeanfield attacks - aided admirably by a commanding performance from Claire McEwan at sweeper. Hibernian broke the deadlock in the 91st minute when Alana McMillan sent substitute Kirsty Rose through on goal. As the Jeanfield keeper raced out Kirsty expertly lobbed the ball over her head form 25 yards and into the empty net for what proved to be the winning goal.
Hibernian 1875: - Laura Connolly; Kelly Bertram; Amy Young; Sarah Hainey; Claire McEwan; Natalie McDermid; Louise Whyte; Jennifer Fawkes; Alana McMillan; Emma Whiting; Mercy Cummings - Subs - Danielle Lennie; Hope Thompson; Kirsty Rose; Claire MacGill.
Hibernian coach Graeme McEwan commented - "We let our recent high standards slip a little in this game. We were generally slow in the build up, lacking in the tackle and we failed to pass the ball accurately. However, we looked comfortable when our opponents had the ball and restricted them to only one or two half chances. We battled right to the end of the game and were rewarded with a fine late goal from one of our many 16 year old players. We have now won 3 out of our last 4 games - all away form home - and look forward to a home game next week against East Fife where a victory could take us above them in the League.
