Hibs 15s v Hibs 96 Match Report
Ash Double Seals Hibs 15s Place in Final
On a calm, mild evening at Redford Barracks Hibs 15s faced their stable mates Hibs 96 in the semi final of the League Cup. Playing in green, after being drawn as the home team, Hibs 15s started brightly and immediately put their opponents under pressure but it didn’t take long before the 96 squad settled and started to impose themselves for spells during the first half.
Hibs 15s starting line-up had Anna in goal, back four of Lara, Robyn, Eve and Lyndsey, midfield Ash, Simone, Caitlin and Tasha and leading the attack Bianca and Crunchie. Shannon was rested for the start having already played a semi final for her school team earlier in the day, Lyndsey deputised at right back and put in a hard shift against a fast and skilful ’96 attack.
Hibs 96 had the first real effort on goal, a long distance shot from Clair, which forced Anna to back track, but she coped well showing good hands taking and holding the ball just under the bar. Shortly afterwards the 15s had the ball in the net after Bianca cleverly lobbed the goalie only for the ref to disallow for offside.
It took a full 25 mins before finally someone found the way to goal, Crunchie passed the ball in field to Eve, Eve picked out Tasha wide on the right, who then made her way to the bye line and sent over a good cross finding Crunchie who had advanced into the danger area, Crunchie showed great technique to turn and volley the ball low to the goalies left.
Ash and Tasha were sending over great cross balls from either bye line, but the 15s were unable to add to the score line the closest of these chances fell to Bianca who kept finding room, taking up excellent positions in the penalty box, but was unable to apply the final touch, she did put the ball in the net once again only for this to be chalked off after being adjudged to have handled.
Half Time – Hibs 15s 1 – 0 Hibs ‘96
In the second half the 15s began to show their strength and took complete control over the game. They would have extended their lead sooner if it hadn’t been for the ‘96 goalie pulling off some excellent saves. 10 mins played and Caitlin showed good skill and determination after receiving the ball wide on the right she drove towards goal and after a fortunate break of the ball she found herself in front of goal and drilled the ball low and hard into the net.
Just 3 mins later and Ash got her name on the score sheet. After cutting in from the left she looked up before sending a terrific curling ball into the top right corner. Chloe made a great run to the bye line then cut the ball back to Toni who was waiting in the centre, she met the ball perfectly leaving the goalie no chance.
Despite being hemmed in to their own half the 96 squad kept battling and managed to mount a number of attacks of their own. Lara showed excellent awareness providing cover for the centre halfs when her superb challenge denied a good scoring opportunity. These attacks provided some respite but the majority of play was the 15s looking to increase their goal tally.
Chloe was next to add her name to the score sheet after gathering the ball inside the 96 half she turned and showed good pace to burst through the defence and then sent a superb strike past the out rushing goalie. The last strike of the day fell to Ash who grabbed her second after making a driving run down the left wing she then sent a delightful cross / shot which dropped over the goalie and into the far side of the net.
