U17s draw away from home
Hutchie Vale 17’s played host to Hibs girls on a day that was to prove difficult for the young Hibs Girls.
Conditions and playing surfaces played a factor, but even before KO the coaching staff warned the girls that Hutchie would be well organised and very physical, but fair.
Hibs kicked off playing down the slope and although possession wasn’t a problem, their lack of killer instinct certainly was. Both flanks were providing effective service in the guise of Anja and Yaz, but the balls over where either swept up by the Hutchie defence or squandered in a day when our girls just didn’t have their shooting boots on.
A lot of our play was based on individual performances, and credit needs to go to Hutchie for the way they set out their game plan. This should hold them in good stead for the league challenge this year. A special mention to Stephanie Briggs, who volunteered to play the first half in goals who came off at half time absolutely freezing.
Half Time 0-0
The second half saw Hibs finally have their recognised goalkeeper on the park for the first time this season due to a freak pre season training exercise. “Welcome back Sam”. This allowed Hibs to play at potentially full strength with Steph back in her more accustomed right midfield position. Throughout the second half Hibs bombarded Hutchie but again with no reward, until for no apparent reason Hibs where awarded a penalty. With only 15 minutes to go, Siobhan stepped up and coolly placed the ball into the corner of the net.1-0 Hibs.
The game continued at pace and Caroline Weir played a perfectly weighted ball straight into the path of Rachel Walkingshaw who unfortunately failed to hit the target. One of several misses from the team, who on another day could have scored 4 or 5.
Hibs where to pay for the missed opportunities when with only a couple of minutes left Hutchie played the ball into the Hibs penalty box and under no real pressure the ball somehow managed to slip through Sam’s grasp and end up in the back of the net. 1-1.
Hibs again had the chances to win the match in the dying minutes, but it was just one of those days. Credit goes to Hutchie and their coaching staff who in the end fully deserved the draw. In a game that was dominated by good defensive play a special mention needs to go to Anna Green and Becka Murdoch who where outstanding in defence for Hibs and to Anja McConnachie who played out of her skin on the left of midfield.
Final score Hutchie 1 – 1 Hibs GLFC.
Hibs GLFC next match is at home to Monifieth Ladies on Sun 11 April 10 with a 2pm KO at Redford Barracks.
