Hibs 1996 v Hibs 15s

Hibs 1996 v Hibs 15s

The first game of the new season saw the 15’s play their stable mates Hibs ’96.

With the new season came a new line-up due partly to a change in squad and also a number of players carrying slight injuries.

It was a cold morning but thankfully the familiar gales were replaced by a welcomed calm, this seemed to influence the players as both teams started cagily without really carving out any clear opportunities in front of goal. The 15s started with Anna in goal, Lara, Robyn, Eve and Lindsay in defence, Ash, Simone, Caitlin and Crunchie in midfield, Toni and Bianca up front.

With 20 minutes played Ash was first to score, she unleashed a right foot shot from 20 yards which found its way into the bottom left corner of the goal. Toni was next to have a pop, however her strike went just past the left hand post. Tash came on for Bianca and immediately moved into midfield with Crunchie joining the attack. Shannon replaced Caitlin after she took a couple of knocks in quick succession, the latter aggravating an already sore right eye.

Ash sent over a great corner kick which Eve headed goal wards but the goalie managed to save, Toni pounced on the loose ballbut her shot went just over the bar. The second goal was literally a bolt from the blue, Hibs 15s were wearing the blue of Scotland, Eve picked up the ball on the half way line moved forward a few yards, spotted the goalie off her line, then let fly with a shot which flew over the keeper and into the net.

The 15s were not getting it all their own way however and the last goal of the first half went the way of the 96s, a good passing move was finished off by a well taken goal by Sarah.

HT Hibs 1996 1 v 2 Hibs 15s

The second half started with a further change in line-up, Lisa and Chloe coming on for Lindsay and Toni. The strength and experience of the 15s began to tell more in the second period with further chances being created. Crunchie made good progress down the left wing crossing into the middle but Chloe was unable to reach the ball. From the half way line Crunchie again broke away this time through the middle before sending a strong shot which unfortunately went just passed the left post. Her persistence finally paid off this time it was a clever flick from Chloe which allowed Crunchie to race in on goal and score.

At the other end Anna had to look lively to rush to the edge of her box to thwart a goal scoring opportunity. Eve made a run down the right wing and sent over a cross which Crunchie latched onto but her shot went passed the far post. Chloe was next to launch an attack down the right wing, she beat a player before cutting in to the edge of the box then lashed home an unstoppable shot over the keeper and into the far side of the goal, a terrific solo effort and a brilliant finish. Ash was also proving dangerous, attacking down the opposite wing she cut in and sent in a shot but the goalie saved well. Another Ash corner was headed goal ward by Eve but this time it went just passed the post. Ash got her second goal after racing into the box and beat the out rushing goalie to the ball before slipping it past her and into the net.

As in the first half the 96s claimed the last goal once again a good passing move was topped off with an excellent finish by the impressive Sarah.

FT Hibs 1996 2 v 5 Hibs 15sThe 1996 team did well against their stronger more experienced opponents and demonstrated an excellent attitude and some excellent passing moves. The 15s did well in their first outing of the season and will no doubt improve over the next few weeks hopefully the offside count will decrease.
